Black History fact:

 As Black History Month comes to an end on the calendar, it will never come to an end in life. Black Americans will continue to excel and do great things that go down history. History books are big enough for all to be included. We will not be denied inclusion.

 The Amen House will be having a Project Prom Dress. You can shop for a prom dress and more, at no cost! See Mrs. Pfost or Mrs. Albensi for details.

 Seniors- This Friday is the deadline to complete all Pathful activities to get a special reward on March 11th.  Make sure you are checking your email for updates.

Black History fact:

 Today in Black History we acknowledge our own, assistant principal, Artie Trent. Trent was a 2000 graduate of Scott County High School. He played on Coach McKee’s initial football team. After high school Trent spent four years in the US Marines and then went on to earn a degree in education from Georgetown College. Trent taught and coached at Caudill Middle in Richmond, Ky for several years. Trent returned home in 2019 and became an assistant football coach at Georgetown Middle School before accepting a teaching position in special education, elevating to assistant principal, and becoming linebacker coach at his Alma Mata. He is currently working on his doctorate degree. Mr. Trent, we salute you!

Black History fact:

Hiram Revels of Mississippi became the first African American senator in 1870. Born in North Carolina in 1827, Revels attended Knox College in Illinois and later served a minister of the African Methodist Church in Baltimore, Maryland.

Tonight, our girls’ basketball team plays in their first district matchup against Henry Clay at 6:00. B team theme is Red Out. Come support your cards, wear red, and sit in the student section behind the home bench!

We’re excited to help our SCHS Cardinals soar to success during this testing season. This newsletter is your go-to guide for all things testing. Read on for important dates, preparation tips, and resources to ensure your student is ready to excel!

Important Dates to Remember

 

  • 🦜 ACT Testing for Juniors: March 11, 2025
    🕘 Students should arrive prior to 8:50 AM for check-in. Testing will begin promptly thereafter.
  • 📖 End-of-Program Exams: March 17 – March 28, 2025
    📌 Teachers will provide specific schedules.

‼️✍️ ACT Consent Information‼️

Your student will be taking the ACT at Scott County High School on Tuesday, March 11. ACT has a service called EOS (Educational Opportunity Service) which collects information from students and sends it to approved colleges, universities, and scholarship programs that may be a good fit for your student based on the information they provide.

⚠️ Students under the age of 18 at the time of the ACT must have parental consent to participate in EOS and send test scores to colleges and universities.

❌ If you choose not to give consent, your student will not be able to request four (4) free score reports (valued at $18.50 each) or participate in EOS.

Herff Jones will be here Thursday, April 18th to distribute Cap & Gowns and any other graduation items ordered. Order balances must be paid in full prior to pick up.

A friendly reminder about our upcoming Career Exploration event on Friday, April 19th at BCTCS. We’re thrilled to offer this opportunity for Juniors and Seniors to explore various career paths and gain valuable insights into different professions. There is still time to sign up! To ensure that you don’t miss out, please remember to turn in your permission slips to Ms. Hatchett, the Everybody Counts Coach in Room 225 by April 18th."

Prom Tickets will be on sale during lunch through Thursday, April 18th! If you are bringing a guest, forms need to be completed and approved before purchasing a ticket. Forms can be turned in when purchasing tickets. Tickets will be $40 each and cash or check will be accepted. Guest forms can be found in the front office, at the ticket selling station, or in Ms. Shaw’s (rm 234) or Mrs. Wilson’s (rm 232). If you have any questions, please find Ms. Shaw!

Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parksare credited for starting the Civil Rights Movement when they organized a bus boycott, eventually leading to the desegregation of public transportation.

Jonah Baysinger placed 7th at the wrestling tournament! Congrats Jonah! Go Cards!

Congratulations to SCHS’s Academic Team for finishing 3rd overall at the Regional Governor’s Cup competition on Saturday.

The Quick Recall Team finished 3rd, Future Problem Solving Team finished 2nd, Jillian Johnson finished 1st in math, and Eli Simpson finished 4th in social studies.

Well done to all of our team members on a great season – and good luck at State to the FPS Team, Jillian, and Eli!

Winning Super Bowl 58 makes Patrick Mahomes the first black quarterback in the NFL to win back to back Super Bowls.

Scott County High school boy’s wrestling: Jonah Baysinger won regional champion at the 138 weight class. Kayne Garrett placed 3rd, at 150 weight class. Both of these young men have secured their ticket to State. A. J. Faulk placed 6th at 106 weight class. Logan Rowe placed 5th, at 120 weight class. Jacob Banner placed 5th, at 157 weight class. Luke Banner placed 6th, at 175 weight class. Ben Camp placed 5th at 190 weight class.

In the 1770s, a Quaker named Anthony Benezet created the first school for African American children.
