Meet the 2025 SBDM Parent Representative Nominees

We are proud to introduce the parent nominees for the Scott County High School Site-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council. These individuals bring valuable experience, community involvement, and a shared commitment to supporting our students, staff, and families. Learn more about each candidate below, and don’t forget to cast your vote!


Kasha Smarr

Kasha Smarr currently serves as a special education instructional assistant at a local elementary school and has nearly a decade of experience in education. Her career has been defined by a passion for creating inclusive, student-centered learning environments and building strong relationships within the school community. Kasha has supported initiatives focused on student learning and educational equity, and she prides herself on being a collaborative, solution-focused team member. She is honored to be nominated and looks forward to the opportunity to listen, learn, and contribute to the ongoing work of improving SCHS for all students and staff.


Jaime Barcus

Jaime Barcus is the proud mother of a soon-to-be sophomore at Scott County High School. She currently serves as the Treasurer of the Scott County Touchdown Club and is eager to become more involved in the school community. Jaime brings energy, organization, and a genuine desire to help support student success. She views the SBDM role as a meaningful opportunity to be a voice for parents and help foster a positive, inclusive environment at SCHS.


Satessa Grimes

Satessa Grimes brings nearly 17 years of experience in healthcare administration, having worked at Saint Joseph Hospital, Cardinal Hill, and for the past four years as a Health Systems Specialist at the Lexington VA. She also serves as President of the Board of Officers for the Lexington Employee Association, a 501(c)(3) focused on employee engagement.

Satessa is the mother of a current junior, Phillip, and her daughter Nevaeh graduated from SCHS in 2023. Married to her husband Phillip Jr. for 18 years, she has remained actively involved in school life, including serving on the Booster Committee for the boys’ basketball team and previous participation in PTSA in Fayette County. Satessa believes deeply in the power of collaboration between school staff, families, and the community. She is committed to representing parents’ voices and working toward positive and effective learning environments for all students.


Donny Johnson

Donny Johnson has lived in Scott County for 17 years and will have two children attending Scott County High School this year. He holds a Bachelor’s in Health Administration and a Master’s in Business Administration, both from the University of Kentucky. With over 25 years of professional experience in healthcare, Donny has worked with hospitals and systems across Kentucky. He has also been an active youth sports coach in the community.

Donny is passionate about supporting academic excellence, balancing extracurricular activities with educational progress, and promoting a safe and inclusive school environment. He believes that strong, transparent schools empower both teachers and students, and he is eager to serve as a parent representative on the SBDM Council.

All parents and guardians of students currently enrolled at Scott County High School or who will be enrolled for the 2025–2026 school year are eligible to vote. A valid photo ID is required to vote.

The Cardinal Players will be presenting the Spring Musical, Beetlejuice Jr this week Thursday and Friday at 7:00 and Saturday and Sunday at 2:00.  Tickets are $12 at the door, but cast and crew are selling them at a discount of only $5 for students through Wednesday.  Get your tickets now, you don’t want to miss this fun show!

This week and next week, we are holding a Pet Supply Donation Drive to support the animals affected by the recent severe weather in Kentucky. You can drop off donations at the entry by the band and outside the front office. We’re collecting items like pet food, puppy pads, clumping litter, toys, gently used blankets, and towels. All donations will go directly to the Humane Society to help animals in need!

 

SCHS Cap and Gown Pick Up is Monday, April 21st!

Class of 2025 seniors! Herff Jones will be here on Monday, April 21st. From 11:00am-2:00pm in the library to distribute cap and gowns and any other graduation items ordered.

BCTC advisors will be here Wednesday, April 23rd from 8:30 to 3:30. Students planning to take BCTC Dual Credit courses either online or off campus next year should sign up in the counseling office for an advising appointment to register for classes. Spots are limited, so do it today!

In honor of Lucas Ratcliff, we are hosting Lucas’s Lego Drive. Please donate new Lego sets and the donations will be given to the Ronald McDonald House. Donations will be collected in the front office until May 23, 2025.

We are putting a new reward system in place for the last 9-weeks of school.  It will focus on ZERO tardies, ZERO unexcused absences, and ZERO write-ups.  Tickets will be given throughout the next 9-weeks that you can use for amazing treats and celebrations!  The challenge will begin as soon as we return from Spring Break so make sure you have zero tardies, zero absences, and zero behavior referrals.

Congratulations to Olivia Brangers on the archery team for her 3rd place finish at KHSA 8th regional tournament. This earns her a spot in the state tournament next month. Overall the girl’s team finished 3rd and the boy’s team finished 7th in the regional tournament.

Scott County High School has sent someone to the state tournament every year since 2017.

Teachers- take regular attendance in IC. If you have juniors in your class, mark them present. Mrs. Walls will take care of the junior’s attendance. If you have an extra roster, after you take attendance, tape it on the door and we will be around to collect it.

Today is ACT day. Seniors- you must be PR ready and have all tasks completed to be excused. Check Pathful and your email if you are unsure.  Juniors- if you plan to check out after the ACT, you MUST HAVE a written note or a parent has to come check you out.  There WILL NOT be any emails or phone calls accepted today, March 11th.

The bells will be off today for testing.
